ÝSO head Küçük calls on government for more attention to Anatolia
Ýstanbul Chamber of Industry (ÝSO) President Tanýl Küçük has said the government must urgently introduce its new incentive package to stimulate investments in Anatolia's economically underdeveloped regions, stressing that Ýstanbul is no longer attractive for those who are seeking better living conditions.
"To prevent migration, we need to solve the problems in these economically underdeveloped places and improve living conditions in Anatolia," he said. Encouraging the industrialists of Ýstanbul to invest in Anatolia with appropriate incentives is an indispensable requirement for eradicating regional imbalances, he added. Underlining the high potential of doing business in southeastern Anatolia, Küçük criticized past incentive packages as ineffective. The new incentive package must be launched immediately, he said, adding: "However, legislation alone doesn't help solve the problems. For example, our industrialists are complaining about the slowness of the bureaucracy. The bureaucratic obstacles are not removed and thus the desired outcomes from the incentives are not achieved. The laws have to be implemented as required," Küçük asserted.
He recalled recent trips to Van and Edirne, saying that organized industrial zones had been constructed in each of these cities and that these zones were left idle due to the lack of sufficient planning and ineffective incentive models. "Many more organized industrial zones are inactive now for the same reasons. You don't need to develop industry in all regions and provinces. For example, tourism may be promoted in Mardin. Similarly, supporting agriculture in Þanlýurfa would be wiser.”
